about
Looking back at what was a very turbulent year, I can't help but feel that we’re not telling ourselves the right stories about what’s coming next, thus letting long-term problems become obscure, inaccessible islands in an ocean of present-tense distraction. This song is about how we need to be better at getting a good reputation with future-us and acting in such a way so that who we are now is worth the trust of who we will become.
lyrics
They captured god and now he's dead
Just pray enough to think you’re god instead
The sides you take are made to break
This grave injustice takes justice to the grave
Nothing has changed
Just sitting complaining
The monsters have awakened
This time no one’s faking
We are broken
We’re all too lost to notice
We are choking
And all our gods are hopeless
Break it open
Half the battle’s knowing
The system that we've chosen
Feels like war in slow motion
Take this filthy flesh and make it clean
Let freedom ring as long as it’s skin deep
So throw these stones and pierce this skin
To get to heaven, the preacher has to sin
Drowning in violence
On fire with silence
The science of compliance
Won’t quiet down the sirens
Why do all the things that matter most
Move way too slow?
Why do we have to lose our hope
Just to get some control?

After I discovered GUNSHIP with UNICORN, I went through all their material in a rush. They're whole discography is great, and I think this is the greatest. This album haunts me. I can't listen to it once. Even if I turn it off, I still hear it echoing in the back of my mind. GUNSHIP has a mastery of the bridge that reaches the level of mastery in this album that's just unrivaled. If you get only one album from GUNSHIP, get this one. Mailanka
